Normally this time on Saturday I’m sitting at the Farmer’s Market (www.rivermarket.info) downtown in Little Rock peddling my art, but today I’m not. Last night was a medical emergency (not me, I’m fine) that I think I shouldn’t get into the details of so I’m staying home to try to help my friends out. I’d love to blog about it, but I’m trying to maintain my friend’s privacy.

Anyhow…

I’m trying to get my website updated, but transferring all my files over to my new machine is a royal pain in the ass (especially because most of my files are still with Mr. X… damnit) so it may take quite some time before I have everything back running at full capacity. I think I’m doing good just to blog. There are so many things to do, it’s hard to keep up! :/

Mr. X and the new computer

So here I am, back online and trying to get everything in order so I can realize some sense of normality after all the recent craziness of my life (and since I got yelled at for mentioning the ex’s name in a myspace bulletin, from here on out I’ll just refer to him as Mr. X when necessary). I have to tell ya, it’s pretty childish to call and yell at someone for mentioning your first name in a simple bulletin that was a lot nicer than it could have been. Well, no-one ever accused X of acting like an adult, now did they? Anyhow, much t. o X’s dismay, I have a computer again, which I must tell you is a nice change, but I’m having a bit of a hard time adjusting to the super-short battery life of this notebook. I’ve always had desktops in the past, so this is a bit of a change for me. I hope that they have better batteries for sale because the one this one came with STINKS! Another quick side note: I have mobile broadband, so I’ll be able to respond to your lovely emails from now on even when I’m on the road, which is often. So there you have it for today, short and sweet, but I have places to go soon, so Adios Muchachos! More rambling soon…

Personal Stuff I Probably Shouldn’t Blog About

Hello to those of you who haven’t stopped checking my blog I almost never update anymore! (and thanks so much for keeping up with me!)

So much is going on in my life right now… Talk about a period of change! I guess the biggest news is that Michael and I have split up. (For those of you who know me personally, this may not come as much of a surprise, but anyway…) Yep, we were together for really close to ten years (and lived together for six), but now, well, we aren’t. It’s a little hectic right now. It feels just like I imagine a divorce would. And it’s messy as hell. We officially split just under a month ago.

Quick side note: If you’re reading this and you’re thinking about hitting on me or trying to ask me out or anything like that, just save yourself the rejection and don’t. Really. Just don’t even bother. I’m not interested or available. Seriously.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled program

If you’ve been trying to get in touch with me via email and it’s either taken a week for me to respond or you’ve heard nothing, that’s because I don’t have a computer at the place I’m staying right now (which is amazingly good for my creativity, but that’s a topic for another day). Try to be patient with me right now. You can give me a hard time if it’s the same story a month from now, okay?

So I guess that’s the big news. If you need to contact me, PLEASE call my cell phone. (That’s 501-908-9927). If you get voicemail, leave a message and I will call you back. Especially leave a message if you’re interested in purchasing a painting. I’m preparing for my first Solo Gallery Show in New York on May 5, so if you want something done I need to know ASAP! (Also big news! More on that later, I PROMISE!)

Anyway, this internet connection is about to drive me nuts, so I’ll TRY to get back online in another day or two with more on the saga that is my life.

Oh, and I’m also working on a big bad new series! More on that soon!

Wow. I haven’t blogged in a long long time. Some of you may be wondering if I’m dead or alive… Well, folks. I’m alive. I’ve just been stressing out a little lately. Lots of stuff going on in my world. Hopefully life will get back to a reasonably manageable (is that spelled right?) pace sometime soon.

Well, let me rephrase that. I want to be busy. I want to have lots of work. I want months like this one was every single month… better even, but what I don’t want is to let myself get overwhelmed by poor time management. I do work my ass off, I really do. If you know me very well you know that, but I’ll also admit that I tend to screw around a lot. I guess the deal is when I work, I really really work, and when I don’t, well, I really really don’t. I say “I’ll just do it later” way too much. Definitely my biggest downfall. Ahhh, procrastination, I know you too well… saying I’ll finish something later and letting half-finished, due tomorrow projects eat me alive . Bad, bad, bad.

And I know it.

I guess that’s the first step though, admitting the problem. Maybe the second step is publicly humiliating yourself by blogging about the problem so that everyone and their dog thinks you’re an unreliable lazy-ass. Oops. Well, I’m not an unreliable lazy-ass. Things do get done, and when I’m focused, stay out of my way. It would just make my life a lot easier and even more productive than it is now if I could pace myself better and not be so all-or-nothing all the time. Do a little here, a little there.

I guess that’s my New Year’s Resolution. Well, people, wish me luck. Out of curiousity, any tips from the peanut gallery? If you have something really good, comment. I could use the advice.

Yeah, okay. Fine. I’ll admit it… I’m kind of an attention whore. So when a television crew wants to do an interview (last month, but I never did see it on tv or I would have recorded it) or (like last weekend) a newspaper photographer approaches me and asks to shoot me for the paper, I don’t exactly say no.

When I found out yesterday while I was at the gallery that the article was going to be in the Sunday Edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (our state paper) today, I wasn’t exactly shy about my hopes that I would be included in the article. (The photographer had plenty of shots of me working to choose from, so I figured my chances were decent at least). Of course it would be my back, but who cares? The important part is that it shows my work and says my name.

Anyway, so I’m off to the gallery again today… Stop by if you’re around!

Back on Impressionism (for a few days, anyway…)

Yesterday I painted at the Starving Artist Cafe (check it out here at: www.starvingartistcafe.net). I decided to paint a scene from inside the cafe. While I was painting, Jason (one of the owners and a fantastic chef!) came up and told me that I was the first person to do that since they’ve been having artists in! What??? I thought that was the most obvious thing to do. I didn’t do it the first time in because I thought everyone probably does it! Crazy. Anyway, finished it up last night, and I have to say, I’m very pleased with the way it turned out. So pleased, in fact, that I’m going to do some more impressionism today. It sounds fun, and when painting something sounds fun I have no choice but to follow my gut and just go with it! That’s the way the best work comes out!
